Position Overview:

Equality California Institute seeks a Program Associate in the Central Valley to support and contribute to the implementation of programs for a variety of sectors and social service providers and assist with grant management. The Program Associate will also support Equality California Institute’s array of other programming, including, but not limited to, community outreach, LGBTQ+ convenings, and organizing.

Support the delivery and implementation of one or more of Equality California’s ongoing programs. This work includes:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend weekly staff and organization-related internal meetings.
  • Work in coalitions related to programmatic and advocacy priorities.
  • Assist with the production and management of events related to programs, initiatives, and projects.
  • Coordinate with the Communications team to create high-quality, creative, and LGBTQ+ relevant media and outreach materials.
  • Provide information to satisfy reports related to grants and other projects and programs.
  • Maintain familiarity with LGBTQ+ competencies, issues, topics, best and promising practices, and the political landscape in California.
  • Support Equality California Institute’s community outreach and education programming statewide:
    • Tabling at pride festivals and community events across the state
    • Participation in pride parades, protests, and other marches
    • Availability to work nights and weekends, and a willingness to travel across the state.
  • Support Equality California and Equality California Institute’s advocacy, legislative, and electoral work, which may include:
    • Phone/text bank in support of Equality California-endorsed candidates.
    • In person canvassing and talking to voters.
    • Volunteer recruitment to execute canvasses.
    • Volunteer recruitment.
  • Assist with other current Equality California and Equality California Institute programs and issues as needed, including, but not limited to, expanding healthcare access, immigration, HIV/AIDS advocacy and prevention, transgender rights, safe and supportive schools, leadership development, passing pro-equality legislation and electing supportive candidates to office.
  • Program associates may be assigned a different program completely, and/or short and long-term additional programs based on the needs of the organization.

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your role within the organization and the overall operational needs of the organization.

Qualifications:

Applicants for this position should bring the following knowledge, abilities, and attitude:

  • Second language fluency is beneficial.
  • Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management, staff, community members, and trainees.
  • Strong research and analysis skills and the ability to synthesize and present research findings for internal and external consumption, in training curriculum and in other contexts.
  • An understanding of program budgeting, with the ability to read and understand financial documents.
  • An eye for detail and accuracy in spelling, grammar, facts, and content.
  • Flexible and able to multitask, with experience responding to multiple priorities.
  • Commitment to working across lines of difference including race, class, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, ability, and legal status to achieve objectives.
  • Ability and interest to work with a wide range of organizations and institutions including other LGBTQ+ groups, unions, religious congregations, and other social justice and advocacy organizations.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent is preferred.
  • A background in community organizing or public health is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full-time, hourly position within the Union, with an hourly rate of $28.13 – $33.65 commensurate with experience with a competitive benefits package, including:

  • 13 paid holidays
  • 2 floating holidays
  • 2 personal holidays
  • 1 day for civic participation
  • 5 days off at the end of the year
  • 15 days of vacation accrued per year
